New Year, New Life

Wow! What a year 2017 was. Jason and I were thankful for the ability to choose life and shared this during the Thanksgiving holiday. There were a lot of decisions made last year, each difficult but necessary in order to get the the new 2018. We look forward to living and the possibility of new therapies, research, and treatments.

More important and special,

because we choose life last year, this year we get to create life. Today, at the start of the new year, we are 18 weeks pregnant! SURPRISE! With a due date of June 4, 2018, we look forward to welcoming baby GIRL Jacobe and all the loves and joys of parenthood!

All photos taken by my sister, Suzanne Gardner, the day after Thanksgiving on the Town Commons in Tarboro, NC.

We were so lucky to have her do this for us :)

So loved, or should I say SPOILED, already!

We know that there may be questions out there. We had some questions too! Feel free to google and you may get answers. I had planned to post several articles and did google several things, but felt that googling would be best if you are interested in this topic! Unfortunately, a lot of articles found have to do with pregnancy IN the female ALS patient, not a spouse, but here is an article for your reading pleasure that has to do with couples!

Warning-it made me cry!

We have asked a nurse practitioner about our child's chance of getting ALS. Being Jason has sporadic disease, we have been told that our child's chances of getting are as liking as the general population. Articles differ, and this is because you are not required to be on a national registry with an ALS diagnosis, but there are 5-6,000 new cases diagnosed in the US every year.

I also found this book written by a mother with ALS, and I really need to get it for myself!

I Remember Running: The Year I Got Everything I Ever Wanted - and ALS by Darcy Wakefield
