We have some GREAT NEWS! Our eye gaze device was delivered to our door yesterday! Between (or during for me) college football today and pro football on Sunday, we will be playing with and getting it all set up. This opens up so many possibilities. Since trach placement back on May 1, Jason has slowly lost his ability to speak. IF we deflate the cuff, it is so uncomfortable for him that all he wants is to inflate it again and he can only get one audible word out. He has been communicating with me by lip reading for months now. Just getting the stand set up took me about 2 hours yesterday (we were missing instructions, so I had to improvise!), so it will be a process this weekend! Our future children will probably not be getting a swing set put together by me is all I'm saying! HA!
We will have a few weeks to "play" with it before we have a couple official teaching sessions.
One teaching session will be with the speech therapist that got this whole process started on November 14 that is so used to working with ALS patients, she knows what is more typically used and our needs.
The other appointment will be with a Prentke Romich device representative that can show us how to do things like add a remote, add Alexa, turn off/on lights in the living room, use infra red, or change settings on November 16. This will be more technology based.
