Getting out of the house

I thought about writing this post because we've done a few things recently that I haven't posted about AND we had an alteration done to the power wheelchair today.

Our power wheelchair representative, Patrick, came to the house to do an alteration in preparation for getting the eye gaze device (which needs to sit on the right arm rest and he had previously installed equipment on this side). A few months ago, back on August 31, we got a head array added to the wheelchair so that Jason could drive it using head movement. And he did use it, but not without a lot of difficulty. We estimated today that in 2 months, we attempted to use it about 5 times. While we originally planned to have Patrick alter it today so that it was easier to use, we decided that the safest thing to do was just take off that equipment and donate it to the ALS Association. It is very expensive and takes so long for insurance approval, maybe someone else can benefit from it longer and it will be more life changing for them. Safe-meaning the alteration that needed to be done was to adjust it so that when Jason started driving, he would be able to stop. He just doesn't feel that he has good enough control over his head to use it anymore. PLUS....I'm good at driving it and I will always be with him anyway. Patrick did add another control so that I have 2 ways to drive it, which we love! One is in front of the left hand and the other is at the back of the wheelchair that will be good for a crowded area that we can't go side by side or in tight spaces.

On a more positive note...Jason and I do get out. We don't do it often, partially because it can be tiring and difficult, but also because whenever we leave the house, we tend to spend money! Who doesn't? HA. But we do leave the house once or twice a week. We go outside almost every day, unless it is rainy cold bad weather. I would say we try to walk to neighborhood once a week as well, which Jackson loves! Leaving the house can be for our doctor's appointments, because Jackson is out of dog food, or I need a few items from Kroger. We have recently been into Kroger to pick up prescriptions, for both of us to get the flu shot, Jason to get a pneumonia shot, and Halloween candy! If I need a lot of items from Kroger, the online ordering has been a lifesaver for us :)

And for the fun part: Jason's work family does outings almost every month, and being Jason does his work from home, these are perfect for us to go and get out of the house. We went to a Brave's game back on September 19. We went bowling (we went, but did not bowl!) back on October 18. This reminds me (because Jason sees all these post), we need a movie date soon!

vs Washington Nationals-Braves lost 4-2

Carlos wanted in!

And someone has a group picture-not sure who!

Jason, Carlos, and I!
