So, we've not been posting quite as often as earlier in the year. To be honest, we are doing great and there isn't too much to update. It is amazing what a little nutrition and oxygen has done for Jason. With how busy we were in the Spring, it has been great just to get into a routine. Other than the visitors and events posted, we've been making it outside everyday, even though it is HOT. We've been to the pool a few times for a few hours at a time to sell ice cream and hang out with the neighbors. Neighbors have picked up an item (or 5) from the grocery store a few times to help me out. And, we have discovered grocery ordering online-what a great innovation-and has made it so easy for us-one less thing to worry about. On Saturday, June 3, we went for a ride because it was so hot. We drove around Lake Lanier and the drive kept us out of the house for an hour and a half. Lake Lanier is about a 5 minute drive from our house-going around it takes some time! On June 7, Tim and Nicole stayed the night on their travels to PA and ME because school's out for the summer! Our neighbors Trish and Sean came over on June 9 to watch game 4 of the NBA finals. We did have something new happen...we had to call 911 for help getting up. We didn't quite make it to the bathroom-clumsiness on my part. Jason joked "at least you get to meet the firefighters." Being they knew the situation and knew it was not an emergency, no sirens at midnight, luckily! (that Hoyer lift is ordered and should be here any day now) I do a lot of lifting, but only from sitting positions. I've gotten Jason up from the floor MANY times and we've called a neighbor to help in the past as well. Being it was late and all...we just did the safest thing. It has been months since we've had a "fall"
Plans for the next few months.
We are planning to drive to Maine this summer :) We've been to NC and FL in our van, Maine is next.
We are starting the recruiting for the Walk to Defeat ALS on October 7 here in Atlanta.
Sign up here
Ways that you can participate:
*You can join us here in Atlanta for the event
*Raise money "virtually" (meaning you raise money but won't actually be in Atlanta on that day)
*Donate to one of the walkers!
AND...I have to acknowledge the large donation from a family friend of Jason. It is listed as "anonymous," but what a surprise from Ms. Pam to honor him with a donation in memory of her parents. SO SPECIAL. I can think of no better way to memorialize and honor someone. This donation furthers awareness and the possibility of finding a cure for Jason, and we are forever grateful.
We have signed up for the Sally Panfel Program and expect this to start tomorrow. This program gives me respite from being here all the time. I can run errands, go take a nap, go to a movie, or just go outside and read a book. They will come two days a week for 4 hours each time. In the future, we may make a calendar for local folks to sign up and come over too for a few hours at a time. Right now though, everyone has been so awesome in coming to us!
Thank you everyone for the continued love and support!
