Day 320

Yesterday, we got a belated wedding gift in the mail. I have to say that it is really exciting to get a present surprise at the front door! It prompted me to check our registry and we have been married for 320 days :) It reminds me that even with all this "illness" stuff going on-we are still newlyweds who have lives and love separate from ALS.
Before we got married and after the initial diagnosis, 2 different people warned me that the first year of marriage is rough and hard, without knowing what was going on health wise. Why? Did they mean because of the change in status, sharing finances, and/or defining roles in each other's lives? I was not worried about any of this. We have been together now 5+ years, survived a long distance relationship, bought a house together, are a little older, and very established in who we are and our careers. I remember thinking-it will be a different kind of hard than you are talking about right now.
We made sure to include "for better for for worse, in sickness and in health" in our ceremony on purpose-not just because it is what you are supposed to say. We knew what that meant already, as we were saying the words, even though our guests did not. There was an unknown with ALS and we were committed to tackling it together. I was not at all worried about our marriage, nor am I today. Are things hard? Yes! Last night we had tacos-try feeding someone else hard shell tacos! (We don't believe in Taco Tuesday-we believe in tacos any day of the week-it's an easy meal!)
All this being said, and even with dealing with the ins and outs of ALS everyday, ALS does not define our relationship, marriage, or lives. We are doing great, we are spending a lot of time together, and we love each other just like it was day 1. Today is "Day 320 of Happily Ever After," according to Bed, Bath, and Beyond. Because we started the blogging with our marriage, let me share before Day 1....it is the foundation of who we are together!
Jason and I love country music.
Me-I'm from the south and just always listened to it.
Him kinda by default-country is the only station he could get on his drives from UMaine in Orono to home in Windham, Maine.
Love this song. Technically, Jason and I have been together around 2,000 days (HA! I promise I have not counted the days-just multiplied the years), but who's counting...
